George Soros

A Hungarian-American businessman and financier, born on August 12, 1930, who rose to fame by earning a reported $1 billion by anticipating the devaluation of the pound sterling following the 1992 UK currency crises. He is the Chairman of the Soros Fund management and the Open Society Institute, the latter of which is a significant center of the promotion of liberal ideals and the transition between communist and capitalist concepts. He is accredited for aiding the Hungarian government's transition to capitalism in the 1980s and active opposition to the party positions of the Republican Party in the United States.
